TeachingWorks offers professional development coaching, workshops, and sustained long-term support for teachers, schools, and school districts.
Professional learning rooted in practice
Our custom programs typically focus on high-leverage practices and helping teachers learn to use the power of teaching to advance social justice. We work directly with teachers and school leaders to determine priorities that respond to the specific contexts of each school or district. “The vulnerability of the instructional team and the openness of the professional development leaders made me feel such a strong sense of community,”
—Denise Finney, Math and Science Coordinator for Chula Vista Elementary School District in San Diego, TeachingWorks K-12 Partner
Customized professional development
TeachingWorks provides workshops for K–12 teachers tailored to respond to specific requests. Our expertise is in supporting teachers to use high-leverage practices to provide ambitious and equitable learning opportunities for students. We do this not only by helping teachers acquire a deep understanding and appreciation of high-leverage practices but also by helping them use practice-based pedagogies of teacher education, such as rehearsal and use of video, to examine and refine their teaching practice.
Mentor teacher support networks
The success of novice teachers often hinges on the hands-on support and guidance they receive from their mentor teachers during their student teaching internship. This is why TeachingWorks provides expert support that bridges the gap between teacher education programs at universities and mentor teachers in K–12 schools. This support is aimed at enhancing strategies teacher educators and mentor teachers can use together to better support student teachers as they learn to teach.
Sustained practice-focused professional development
Our sustained professional development partnerships are multi-year engagements that allow us to offer deep and individualized support for long-lasting change, both in individual classrooms and across entire schools and districts. The goal of these partnerships, which are co-designed with the participating educators, is to help teachers and school leaders firmly integrate a set of high-leverage practices into their programs, and develop systems and routines that advance the power of teaching to create a more just society.
