TeachingWorks named as new 100kin10 partner
TeachingWorks has been named a new partner in 100kin10, a national network to grow the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) teaching force. As part of its commitment to the program, TeachingWorks will use the Elementary Mathematics Laboratory (EML), to provide innovative professional development to at least 250 elementary and secondary classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, teacher educators, and math coaches by 2018.
“We are honored to be invited to partner with 100Kin10 and work with them to bring excellence into STEM learning environments,” said Deborah Loewenberg Ball, dean of the University of Michigan School of Education and director of TeachingWorks. “It’s going to take innovation, creativity, and hard work to respond to this national challenge.”
The University of Michigan School of Education’s LessonSketch was also invited to join 100kin10. An online platform that uses rich media to support the study of teaching practice, LessonSketch was developed by Professor Patricio Herbst and Dr. VuMinh Chieu from the University of Michigan School of Education and Professor Daniel Chazan from the University of Maryland.
100Kin10 is a multi-sector network that responds to the national imperative to train and retain 100,000 excellent STEM teachers by 2021. LessonSketch and TeachingWorks are two of nearly 200 100Kin10 partners unified by a single, ambitious goal: to prepare all students with the high-quality STEM knowledge and skills to equip them for success in college and the workplace.
