Together, we’ll explore the following question:

What does it mean to ground teacher education in practice?

We will share specific approaches to helping teacher candidates learn the building blocks of equitable teaching practices, and you’ll take away multiple examples of lessons and instructional activities that you can use in your own teaching. Each day, participants will view and discuss examples of practice-based teacher education, and engage in an ongoing conversation about how to prepare teacher candidates to use teaching practices that help all students learn at high levels.

What to expect at the Foundations of Practice-Based Teacher Education Workshop: 

• An in-depth explanation of the key components of practice-based teacher education
• Opportunities to view and discuss videos, lesson plans, and other artifacts of practice-based teacher education
• Strategies for reorganizing courses and class meetings so that much more time is spent on practice
• Regular discussion of the equity implications of practice-based teacher education

Participants will leave the Foundations of Practice-Based Teacher Education Workshop with:

• Tools and Strategies for Making Teaching Learnable: Learn how to translate complex instructional techniques into clear steps, making high-impact teaching accessible and replicable, using tools such as video and simulations.
• Confidence in Using the Learning Cycle: Use the Learning Cycle confidently to design experiences that give teacher candidates opportunities to unpack and practice elements of classroom teaching. 
• Empowerment to Support Novice Teachers: Develop confidence in the skills to guide beginning teachers in creating equitable, effective classrooms, where every move contributes to student success.
• A Certificate: Walk away with a digital, printable document that certifies you as a graduate of the Foundations of Practice-Based Teacher Education Workshop and identifies the dates during which you participated.

How is the learning organized?

This workshop blends informative, facilitator-led sessions with opportunities for participants to examine and discuss examples, try out strategies, and collaborate with others.

What do I need to participate in the Coaching Institute?

A laptop or tablet is required to access digital resources. No other supplies are required.

Who should participate?

Anyone interested in teacher education—doing it, designing it, or supporting it—is welcome.

What is the refund policy?

TeachingWorks reserves the right to cancel in-person, virtual, or hybrid training or workshops before the start. TeachingWorks staff will notify participants of cancellation via email. Participants will be eligible for a full refund of their registration fee. TeachingWorks will not be held responsible for any expenses incurred due to the cancellation of an event, training, or workshop.

For a full refund (100%), participants must submit a written request to cancel or withdraw 30 days prior to the first day of the event (in-person or virtual). Fifty percent (50%) will be refunded for requests received 15 days prior. No refunds will be issued for requests received within seven (7) business days of the first day of the event or failure to submit the documentation required for participation.
