TeachingWorks awarded grant for work with the California State University System
The S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation has awarded TeachingWorks a $250,000 grant to support the development of practice-based approaches in mathematics methods courses on five campuses in the California State University (CSU) system.
Led by TeachingWorks director Deborah Loewenberg Ball and mathematics specialist Amber Willis, fellowship participants will work together to develop and implement course materials and instructional approaches that focus on the interconnections of specific high-leverage practices, mathematical knowledge for teaching, and equitable access to excellent mathematics instruction. The project aims to produce knowledge and instructional materials that will be useful to and accessible to teacher educators across the CSU system and beyond.
“We’re thrilled to be able to partner with faculty in the CSU system where over 10% of the nation’s teachers are prepared and with instructors who are eager to develop their focus on practice, mathematics, and the work of ensuring equitable access to learning in their programs,” said Francesca Forzani, TeachingWorks deputy director.
